John is a top-ranked coach and trusted advisor to senior leaders. Three organizations designate him a Master Coach: Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching, the International Coaching Federation, and the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches.
He applies training in strategy and leadership psychology as well as executive coaching. As a Tuck MBA and Navy veteran, he later received a PhD in psychology from the University of Georgia and interned at Emory.
John founded Quinn Reed Associates in 2005 to help leaders reach new heights. He previously worked with energy and healthcare clients in the Accenture strategy practice, and in the public sector practice of CGI.
His documented hours serving C-level leaders, founders, partners, boards, teams, and other professionals now exceed 6000. His 30+ client organizations range from the Fortune 50 to private equity startups in 14 sectors including financial services, healthcare, legal, aerospace, consumer products, and technology.
As a Founding Fellow and Contributing Author at the Institute of Coaching at McLean/Harvard Medical School, John’s most recent recognition (2023) is the Distinguished Psychologist in Leadership Award from The Society of Psychologists in Leadership.
He is the #1 proponent of raising professional standards for practicing coaches to protect and benefit clients globally. His co-authored 2024 article, A Comprehensive Guide to Picking an Executive Coach, was published by The Association for Talent Development. Pinpointing Excellence: Succeed with Great Executive Coaching and Steer Clear of the Rest (2022) is his latest coaching book.
John mentors developing coaches in the MG100’s Forefront Program. He also supports children and fellow veterans, serving for instance as Board President of a Houston school, The Nehemiah Center, and helping veterans in The Honor Foundation and MBA programs at Vanderbilt and Dartmouth.
He and his wife Perry Ann, a healthcare leader, live in Miami and Austin.
